This 6-hour Giethoorn private tour from Amsterdam begins with a direct pick-up from your location. We will head straight to a village where waterways completely replace roads. There will be no other tourists on this route—just your group. Upon arrival, we leave the car behind and board a boat. From there, it is nothing but water, blooming gardens, and historic farms on individual islets.

Island Life and a Guided Cruise

Local transport in Giethoorn consists of quiet electric boats moored right at the residents’ doors. Neat houses with thatched roofs stand on separate islands, connected by hundreds of wooden bridges. This labyrinth often earns the village the nickname “The Venice of the Netherlands,” but instead of city noise, you will find the tranquility of the peaceful countryside, birdsong, and flocks of wild white swans.

During the private boat cruise, I will be your guide and captain. I will explain how the Dutch have managed life on the water for centuries and why Giethoorn became a global destination after a famous film was shot here.

Along the way, we can step ashore to visit local glass and ceramics galleries. For lunch, I suggest a pause at a local café known for its traditional Dutch mustard soup.

What’s Included (650 EUR)?

The format is strictly private: I do not form mixed groups, meaning only you and your party (up to 6 people) will be on the route. The drive from Amsterdam takes about 1.5 hours each way (120 km).

Included in the price:

  • Round-trip transfer from your location in Amsterdam. The car is equipped with child seats, free Wi-Fi, and drinking water.

  • Private boat rental and Giethoorn canal cruise.

  • Full guide services in Giethoorn—I will accompany you throughout the entire route.

Food, drinks, and souvenirs are paid separately. Since this is a private tour, the itinerary remains flexible: we are not tied to a rigid schedule, moving at your pace and focusing on what interests you most.

When is the Best Time to Visit Giethoorn?

This is a seasonal route, available only from April to October. The most picturesque landscapes await in late July and August when the hydrangeas on the islands are in full bloom.

Is Pick-up Available Outside Amsterdam?

Yes, logistics can be arranged. The base price is calculated for a departure from the capital, but if you are staying in another Dutch city, message me and I will recalculate the route.

What to Combine This Trip With?

On the way back, I suggest stopping by the former island of Urk (an additional 2 hours / 150 EUR, a 40-minute drive). It is worth a visit to see the life of real Dutch sailors and taste fresh seafood delicacies right by the harbor.

If you are planning other trips from the capital, consider these routes:
