Gouda and Delft are two cities well worth venturing outside of Amsterdam for. Over 6 hours (including a 35-minute transfer), we will take a break from the noisy metropolises. I will show you the cozy side of Holland. First, we will uncover the secrets of the royal dynasty in Delft, and then head to Gouda. There, we will walk past ancient merchant houses and be sure to try the famous farmhouse cheese and traditional Dutch stroopwafels.

Delft: Porcelain, Science, and the Royal Dynasty

We will start our route at the historical homeland of the ruling family. The ancient architecture of the Golden Age is perfectly preserved here—we will see with our own eyes how influential Dutch merchants and innovative scientists lived.
We will approach the leaning tower and discuss how international law originated in this city.
We will discover where the “Father of the Nation,” William of Orange, lived. I will explain the origins of the current royal dynasty and why they are so respected by the Dutch.
We will walk through the neighborhoods where Vermeer painted his famous “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” and where a local researcher invented the microscope.
We will stop by the 14th-century fish market. I will teach you the proper way to eat the famous Dutch maatjes herring, and we will taste local chocolate in the nearby shops.

Gouda: The Birthplace of the Famous Cheese, Stroopwafels, and Ancient Guilds

From Delft, we will move to a city whose name has long become synonymous with gastronomy. But Gouda is not just about cheese shops. We will see the grand scale on which wealthy merchants built their homes here.

We will head to the main Market Square. You will see the ancient guild buildings and the monumental city hall, which looks more like a luxurious royal palace.
We will see a unique working windmill where a Dutch family still lives today, preserving ancient traditions.
We will visit chocolate workshops and the oldest bakeries to taste traditional Dutch stroopwafels and learn why these waffles have become a culinary symbol of the country.

How will we travel between the cities?

By train or by car. The basic option is a trip on public transport: the journey takes 35 minutes, and tickets cost about 10 euros round trip. If you prefer more comfort, I can organize a car transfer.

Which day of the week is best for the trip?

Any day, the route is available year-round. However, from May to September, I highly recommend choosing Thursday for this Gouda and Delft private tour. This is the day when traditional cheese markets are held in Gouda—an incredibly spectacular event.

Tour cost (3 options to choose from):
550 euros — Basic rate (walking + train). We meet at Delft station, walk around the city, and then take the train together to Gouda (tickets cost ~10 euros per person, I will help you buy them). You get to the starting point in Delft and back from Gouda on your own.
600 euros — Partially by car. We meet in Delft. To minimize fatigue, we will travel in my car on the accessible parts of the route, including the drive to Gouda. After the tour, I will drive you back to Delft.
650 euros — Full support from Amsterdam. I will pick you up at your hotel in my car, drive you along the entire route, and return you to Amsterdam.
