This private family walking tour of Amsterdam is led by a licensed local guide and designed for children aged 8 and up together with parents and grandparents. It lasts 1.5 hours, takes up to 8 people. The price is €200 per group.
Most city tours are built for adults. This one is built for a whole family: children discover the city through stories, puzzles and surprises, and adults finally get to enjoy the history without anyone checking the time.
We turn 1.5 hours into a dynamic quest filled with interactive tablet stories, archival footage, and city riddles:
Architectural Secrets and History Brought to Life: You’ll discover why Amsterdam’s houses lean forward, what it really means to “live on trees,” and how to read the layout of the city’s canal ring like a pro. We’ll step onto the central square, where old photographs on our tablet will literally slide back time, revealing how these exact streets and gables looked in the 17th century.
City Codes and Hidden Details: We’ll learn to decode facades without reading a word—unraveling the stone carved plaques people used to navigate before street numbers existed, spotting hidden hooks under the eaves, and finding peaceful secret courtyards. We’ll also pause at the Mouse Mansion (Het Muizenhuis)—a whimsical miniature dollhouse world where kids love searching for tiny mice tucked inside miniature rooms.
Life on the Canals and Houseboats: We’ll walk right up to authentic residential barges to see how locals live on the water: how floating apartments are built, where their power and water come from, and why local cats love lounging on the decks. Along the way, we’ll see De Poezenboot, the city’s famous floating cat sanctuary.
Tulips, Royalty, and City Legends: We’ll find out just how astronomical the price of the most expensive tulip in history was and where the historic flower trade took place. I’ll also share lively stories about modern Dutch kings, princesses, and colorful local figures who once walked these very cobblestones.
All that sleuthing and mouse-hunting is bound to work up an appetite! Along the route, we’ll make delicious pit stops to try freshly baked stroopwafels with warm caramel, crispy Dutch fries, and authentic local cheeses. It’s the perfect way to pause, recharge, and snack like a true Amsterdammer (food and drinks purchased separately).
