Take a 5-hour trip from Amsterdam to explore one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands and the country’s grandest castle. This is a fully personalized Utrecht private tour exclusively for your group of up to 6 people. The itinerary is flexible and tailored entirely to your pace and interests.
We will start in Utrecht’s historic center, famous for its unique split-level canals where old merchant cellars have been transformed into cozy waterfront terraces.
Our walk begins at the Dom Tower and its cathedral, the oldest church in the country. We will spot cannonballs wedged into residential walls from the Hundred Years’ War and pass the former home of the only Dutch Pope in history.
To understand the pragmatic local approach to religion, we will visit a former Protestant church. Today, it houses a lively cafe pouring local craft beer and serving hot bitterballen—the perfect spot to discuss how religious wars shaped modern Dutch society.
After exploring the city for two hours, we will take a short drive to De Haar Castle. Rebuilt from medieval ruins at the turn of the 20th century and financed by the Rothschild family, it was transformed into a lavish palace featuring cutting-edge comforts for its era, including central heating and a private hair salon.
You will learn why the tableware was exclusively designed for the estate and hear about the strict rules the baron enforced on his high-society guests. We will wander through halls that once hosted Hollywood royalty, with plenty of time to explore the expansive grounds and rose gardens afterward.
The tour lasts 5 hours.
You will be picked up from your Amsterdam address and dropped off after the trip. The drive to Utrecht takes about 45 minutes each way, giving us plenty of time to chat about Dutch traditions and everyday life in the modern Netherlands.
Pricing is 450 euros for a group of up to 6 people.
✅ This includes:
Round-trip transfer: Private car ride from Amsterdam and back (about 45 minutes each way).
Guiding services: Full attention from your guide throughout the itinerary.
Walking tours: 2 hours exploring Utrecht and 1.5 hours at De Haar Castle.
Local tips: Assistance with planning the rest of your stay in the Netherlands.
⚠️ Food, drinks, and De Haar Castle entrance tickets are paid separately (21.50 euros per adult, 13.50 euros for children aged 4 to 12). Tickets must be purchased in advance via the official website kasteeldehaar.nl.
You can extend the itinerary with a visit to Muiderslot Castle, just 25 minutes from Utrecht. This is where Count Floris V lived and met his demise back when Amsterdam was little more than a tiny fishing village.
