Salty sea air, crisp wine, and the freshest catch—this seasonal 7-hour escape to the North Sea coast is designed for those who want to blend nature with a true culinary adventure. Join me in the Zeeland province to forage for wild oysters and master the art of pairing them with local Dutch wines.
The drive from Amsterdam to the coast takes about two hours, offering a great chance to see the iconic engineering marvels that protect the land. Along the way, we will talk about the local seal habitats and the fascinating history behind the name “New Zealand.”
Once at the nature reserve near the Belgian border, we will head into the shallows to forage for wild oysters. All necessary equipment—waders, gloves, and tools—is provided. After a brief tutorial, you will quickly learn to identify the best specimens. Within an hour, you will have a bucket full of delicacies and will have mastered the “Shakira” shucking technique—a skill you can easily replicate for friends at home.
Freshly harvested oysters deserve a proper setting. We will enjoy a scenic waterfront picnic where you can savor your catch paired with six unique sauces, light snacks, and chilled prosecco. Over lunch, we will discuss the history of the local oyster trade and traditional culinary practices.
Next, we will visit a local vineyard to discover how vines thrive in this unique maritime climate. You will tour the estate, explore the production process, and taste three regional wines that define this coastal terroir.
Everything is included to ensure a seamless experience.
