— classic farm with traditional Dutch cheese.
What you will do:

— visit the museum of mills, a modern farm and the embankment with many traditional “delicacies”;
— you will try real Dutch cheese, popular Matias herring, smoked eel and other local delicacies;
– you will make many excellent pictures for memory.
Windmills are a symbol of the Netherlands
Zaanse Schans – an open-air mill museum – the first on our list of the most beautiful villages in Holland. In the 60s In the last century, 13 mills from all over the country were brought here, restored, and today they all serve different purposes. And not just like that, but sawing boards, squeezing oil from seeds, grinding cocoa beans, mustard seeds, spices into powder, pumping water and grinding paints, just like four centuries ago. You can enter many of them and see the mechanism in action. In addition, the upper floors of the buildings are equipped with observation decks that offer a great view.
In Zaanse Schans, you will immerse yourself in the history and culture of the Netherlands, visit a museum, a master class on the production of wooden shoes, the first supermarket and look into the cozy courtyards of local residents. You will also learn everything about the history of Dutch cheese and the traditions of its production, enjoy tasting the most delicious varieties of cheese, prepare traditional cocoa with your own hands and try local sweets.
Edam is both a garden and a cheese
Then we will go to visit the cows near Edam – the cheese family of the same name with a centuries-old history, where traditional cheese markets are still held. It is in towns like Edam, far from the busy streets of Amsterdam and the hustle and bustle of the capital, that native Dutch people prefer to live. This is an old town with well-kept streets and canals traditional for the Netherlands. In Edam, the oldest wooden house in the country (XVI century), the church of St. Nicholas (XV century) and the playing tower with a carillon, a bell-shaped musical instrument, have been preserved.
Fishing place Volendam
And we end our tours of the most beautiful villages of Holland on the embankment in the fishing village of Volendam with a tasting of “virgin” Matias herring, smoked eel and other traditional delicacies of the local cuisine. Unlike Zaanse Schans, this is not a specially created tourist attraction, but an ordinary settlement whose residents are engaged in fishing. At the same time, creative people from all over the world have long loved to relax here, in the fresh air. Beautiful landscapes, a calm friendly atmosphere, well-established infrastructure contribute to the influx of tourists.
As part of an excursion to villages with traditional Dutch architecture and picturesque landscapes with cows and mills on green meadows, “doll” towns and embankments, you will immerse yourself in the main spheres of the country’s life, discover age-old traditions and learn a lot of interesting things about the history of the Netherlands.
Often, choosing the villages of Holland for one-day excursions, we use the opportunity to visit a familiar farmer, where we make sure that there are really happy cows in the Netherlands.
